Plain terms. Honest limits.

Plain-English summary: I write your resume to the best of my ability. You pay what we agreed. You own the final files. I retain the right to use anonymized portfolio samples only with your written permission. I cannot guarantee you’ll get hired. No honest resume writer can. We resolve disputes in good faith first; Tennessee law if it ever comes to that.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By engaging Next Rank Careers (“we,” “I,” “Lindsay Jacobson”) for resume writing or related services, including by sending an inquiry email, accepting a quote, paying an invoice, or otherwise interacting with the service, you (“you,” “the client”) acknowledge you have read and agree to these Terms of Service. You represent that you are at least 18 years of age and a resident of the United States. If you do not agree, or if either of these representations is not accurate, please do not engage the service.

2. Services Provided

Next Rank Careers provides resume writing, cover letter writing, and LinkedIn profile services as described on the Services page. The specific scope, deliverables, timeline, and price for each engagement are confirmed in writing during the quote conversation before work begins.

Services are delivered by email and a private online intake questionnaire. Career coaching, interview coaching, and other ongoing services are not included unless explicitly agreed in the engagement scope.

3. Pricing & Payment

Tier pricing: Tier prices are shown on the Services page as fixed prices. Add-ons and per-application updates are priced separately as listed.
Payment timing: A 50% deposit is due before work begins, and the balance is due on delivery. Quotes are valid for 14 days. Work begins after the deposit clears and intake is complete.
Accepted methods: Electronic payment (Apple Pay, Venmo, PayPal, Cash App, and all major credit and debit cards), Zelle, and employer invoicing on request. No processing fees are added to your total. See Payment for details.
Pricing: Services are billed at the rates published on the Services page at the time your quote is issued. A quote, once issued, is honored for that engagement. Published rates may change at any time and do not affect work already quoted or in progress.
Service discount: First responders (Fire, Law Enforcement, EMS, 911 Dispatch, corrections, ER techs, and emergency, trauma, ICU, and flight nurses) and military (current or retired) receive 20% off all services, rounded down to the dollar. The Full Review and Briefing fee is credited toward a package purchased within three months of the briefing; package prices are those in effect at the time of purchase. Service members who have returned from an active deployment within the last 12 months may receive a resume package at no charge after contacting me first to confirm eligibility.

Chargebacks and payment disputes: By engaging the service, you agree to use the dispute resolution process in Section 6 (Refunds & Cancellation) and Section 13 (Governing Law & Disputes) before initiating a chargeback, payment dispute, or reversal with your payment processor. Initiating a chargeback for delivered work without first attempting to resolve the issue directly constitutes a breach of these Terms. In the event of a chargeback that is later resolved in my favor or determined to have been initiated in bad faith, you remain responsible for the original payment plus any chargeback fees, processing fees, or collection costs incurred.

4. Turnaround Time

Turnaround is stated in your written quote and runs from the date your intake (questionnaire and any follow-up answers) is complete. The clock starts when I have everything I need, not at the moment of payment. Rush delivery (48 hours, weekends counted) is available for an additional fee. Standard turnaround does not include weekends or US federal holidays.

All timing references in these Terms (turnaround, revision windows, response times) are based on US Central Time, Monday–Friday, excluding US federal holidays.

5. Revisions & Scope

A “round of revisions” means one consolidated set of feedback delivered in a single communication. If you submit feedback in multiple separate communications, each communication may be counted as a separate round at my discretion. To make the most of your included revisions, please review the draft fully and send all feedback together.

Revisions must be requested within 14 days of the first draft delivery. Additional revision rounds beyond what’s included may be available at an hourly rate, quoted on request. Scope changes (e.g., targeting a different role mid-engagement) may require an additional fee or may be considered a new engagement.

6. Refunds & Cancellation

Each refund situation is handled individually based on the specific circumstances. Standard practice:

Before intake submission: full refund
After intake but before draft delivery: prorated refund based on work performed
After draft delivery: refunds not standard, but reviewed individually if there is a clear failure to deliver agreed scope

If something is wrong, contact me first. Most situations are resolved through conversation rather than refund.

7. Confidentiality

Information you share during an engagement (career history, target roles, employers, salary, personal information, anything in the intake or revisions) is confidential. I will not share, publish, or discuss your information with third parties except as required to deliver the service or comply with applicable law.

In return, I ask that you not redistribute or resell the deliverables I create for you to third parties as if they were a template or product. This does not restrict your personal use of your resume, cover letter, or LinkedIn content (see Section 8, those are yours).

8. Intellectual Property

Final deliverables (your resume, cover letter, LinkedIn content) belong to you. Once payment is complete, you own and may use, modify, or share your final files however you wish.

I retain the limited right to use anonymized samples for portfolio purposes: only with your explicit written permission, and only after all identifying information (name, employer names, contact details, and any other personally identifying details) has been removed or replaced with generic equivalents.

If you decline portfolio use, that’s binding. I will not show your resume publicly without permission.

9. No Guarantee of Outcomes

Important: please read carefully. Hiring outcomes depend on hundreds of factors outside any resume writer’s control: the job market, the specific employer’s hiring process, internal candidates, your interview performance, references, salary negotiations, timing, and luck. Next Rank Careers makes no guarantee, express or implied, that you will be interviewed, offered, or hired for any role. Our service is to produce a high-quality, accurately-translated resume that represents your real experience to the best standard of the craft. The outcome of your job search is your own.

10. Honesty in Resume Content

All content in the resumes, cover letters, and profiles I produce reflects information you provide. I will not invent credentials, falsify employment history, fabricate metrics, or misrepresent your experience. Translation, not exaggeration. If you ask me to include false information, I will decline the engagement.

You are responsible for the accuracy of the source information you provide. Misrepresentations on your resume, whether or not I drafted them based on your input, are your responsibility, not mine.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Next Rank Careers’ liability for any claim related to services rendered is limited to the amount you paid for the engagement giving rise to the claim. Next Rank Careers is not liable for indirect, consequential, or incidental damages including (without limitation) lost wages, lost employment opportunities, or damages arising from hiring outcomes.

11A. No Warranties

Services are provided “as is” and “as available.” To the maximum extent permitted by law, Next Rank Careers disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. No advice or information, whether oral or written, obtained from Next Rank Careers creates any warranty not expressly stated in these Terms.

11B. Client Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Next Rank Careers and Lindsay Jacobson from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from or related to: (a) any inaccurate, false, or misleading information you provide for inclusion in your resume, cover letter, or LinkedIn content; (b) your use of the deliverables; or (c) your breach of these Terms. Next Rank Careers will promptly notify you of any claim subject to indemnification and will reasonably cooperate in your defense.

12. Termination

Either party may terminate the engagement at any time. If terminated, refund handling follows Section 6. Termination does not relieve you of payment obligations for work completed before termination.

13. Governing Law & Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Tennessee, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms or services rendered will first be addressed in good-faith conversation between the parties. If unresolved, disputes will be settled in the courts of Madison County, Tennessee, or in binding arbitration if both parties agree.

Nothing in this Section limits any non-waivable rights you may have under the consumer protection laws of your state of residence. Where applicable law of your state provides rights that cannot be waived by contract, those rights apply notwithstanding the choice of Tennessee law above.

14. Changes To These Terms

These Terms may be updated periodically. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent change. Material changes will be communicated to active clients by email. Engagements already in progress will be governed by the Terms in effect at the time the engagement was confirmed.
